📚 Welcome to the Library! 📚
Our school library is a joyful hub for curious minds! Here, students from TK through 6th grade explore new worlds, discover exciting books, and build the skills they need to be thoughtful, empowered 21st-century thinkers!
Library Goals:
-
Foster a lifelong love of reading by connecting every student with books that match their interests and abilities.
-
Build strong research and information literacy skills so students can ask questions, find answers, and evaluate sources with confidence.
-
Create a welcoming community space where stories, voices, and perspectives reflect and celebrate all learners.
We hope you’ll join us on our Library adventure!
Library FAQs
When can students visit the Library?
Classes visit the Library once per week. The Library is also open during Snack Recess every day for students to read quietly, return, or check out books.
How many books may students check out at a time?
TK, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 may check out one book at a time. Grades 2-6 may check out two books at a time.
How long can students keep their books?
Students are asked to return books each week. If they are still actively reading a title, students may renew it. Popular books may have a renewal limit. Our School Library never charges late fees.
What happens if a book is lost or damaged?
Please let the Librarian know as soon as possible, so we can work together to source a replacement copy.
How can families support the Library?
- Families can encourage daily reading at home and discuss what they’re reading with each other.
- Parents and guardians can sign up to volunteer in the Library to assist students and help maintain the collection.
- Familes can join and donate to the PTA and M.A.C.K. – both groups provide vital funding and support for our school Library.
Elementary Library Guidelines & Opt Out
Our elementary students have an opportunity to visit their school library on a regular basis. Visiting the library promotes literacy, curiosity, and a love of learning!
Library Guidelines
- Students have an opportunity to check out library books during their class library time.
- If your student brings a library book(s) home, please help them find a safe place to keep the book. Make sure to keep library books away from young siblings, pets, and any food or drinks. The best place for library books is in your student’s backpack.
- Borrowed books are expected to be returned at the next library visit. If a student forgets their book, they should tell their teacher. Students must return borrowed books before checking out a new book.
- We do not charge for late books. However, there is a replacement fee if a library book gets lost or damaged.
Library Opt-Out
- If you do not want your child to borrow books or materials from the school library, please complete this opt-out form and return it to your child’s teacher.
- If you have multiple children attending GUSD elementary schools, please complete a separate form for each child you would like to opt out.
- Students who opt out should be provided a selection of widely-accepted, age-appropriate books to read during their class' scheduled library visit. They will not be permitted to borrow books from their school library.
